Lost in translation: A life in a new language
" 'identities are reconstructed and life stories are retold' in the process of learning an additional language in a new cultural context" (Palenko and Lantolf, 2000 on Eva Hoffman, 1997). This comment confirms what I've been experiencing, that with every language we learn and with every culture we live in, a different self is born, in addition to our monolingual selves. "This language [English] is beginning to invent another me" (Hoffman again).
